Back to School Friending Meme Extraordinaire!

I have always wanted to do a friending meme in my journal! Why? Because friending memes are super cool, and I am not gonna lie, every time somebody posts one, I think, "Damn, I should have done that."

So I am doing it now! The entry is public, so please, share!

Copy and paste this into a comment and let your colors show! *

* We here at the [livejournal.com profile] rhetoricians friendstravaganza experience make no guarantees regarding the caliber or quality of potential friend candidates, only that she has some awesome friends and wants to share them and make some new ones!

Of course, for this to work, it has to be shared! Here is a link to the HTML code for the sharing portion of our fair meme!

ETA: The HTML code should link back to this entry now! I am a huge derp. Please post away! (there might be a spare "div" in there but if you just delete it it'll be A-OK).

What zodiac sign are you? Do you put much stock in that sort of thing?:Cancer - I don't think they are necessarily true, but I've always been very interested in star signs, and I really am a complete Cancer.
Are you in any of the Harry Potter landcomms here on LJ? (HiH, H_E, etc)? What house?I'm in HiH and HE - at HiH I'm a Slytherin, and at HE I'm a Puff. However, I think they got that one wrong and personally consider myself to be a Slytherdor.
Location (or a close approximation):Norfolk, England.
Job/year in school:I'm just out of college and am now about to start a part time course in A Level English from home, and am looking for part time work.

Books:Harry Potter, The Catcher In The Rye, Lucas by Kevin Brooks, Little Women, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Story of My Face by Kathy Page...
Video games:I only ever play the Sims on occasion.
TV shows:Skins, That 70's Show, Friends, Gossip Girl, The OC, Misfits, 90210, Sirens, Beaver Falls, Big Brother, The X Factor, Pretty Little Liars, The Big Bang Theory.
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being "what the fuck is a fandom?" and 10 being "I love so many fandoms!" how much is your LJ an expression of your love for fandoms?:I talk about my life mostly, but I will sometimes post about my fandoms (Skins, Harry Potter, The X Factor), maybe about a 5?
If money was no object (eg: every career made the same amount annually), what job would you have? (Don't say anything lame like "no job" or "professional lazyass" - dig deep, people!):
If I could do anything in the world I would be a dancer. I have little talent in the area, but I suppose if money was no object I could take the time to learn. What does the subject matter of most of your LJ entries seem to focus on? (eg: real life, fandom stuff, writing, graphics, etc):Mostly real life - my musings on myself, life, the people in it, rehashings of old memories, anecdotes, descriptions of what I've been doing. I sometimes post photos and memes, with the occasional fandom stuff. Sometimes fandom will cross over into real life, though.
What are you looking for in a new friend? Do you care about how often people comment?:Someone honest, open-minded and interesting. It would be nice if you write about your life and have some of the same interests. I do want people to comment sometimes, but it's not as if I expect it every post.

Totally pointless reply, since we're already friends through SH, but still, it was nice to read a bit more about the woman behind the hospital. You sound like fun! Even though I'm not a parent/lesbian/Buddhist/vegetarian and I'm in law school. ... So I guess I fail all over.

The art therapy sounds like such a rewarding job, hope you'll make it!

Age: 25
What zodiac sign are you? Do you put much stock in that sort of thing?: I'm a Gemini. While it's fun to think about once in a while, I don't put much stock in it at all.
Are you in any of the Harry Potter landcomms here on LJ? (HiH, H_E, etc)? What house? I'm a member of the [livejournal.com profile] hogwartsishome community. I was sorted as a Hufflepuff there, but I consider myself a Ravenclaw through and through.
Location (or a close approximation): Missouri, United States
Job/year in school: I'm currently a full-time student, pursuing a degree in sociology/anthropology with minors in women's and gender studies and disability studies.

Movies: Honestly, with my Netflix membership having been going strong for a year now, my favorite movies are generally the ones I've watched most recently. A Single Man, Sympathy for Delicious, An Education, I Love You Phillip Morris, Exit Through The Gift Shop... Long time favorites include Bablel, The Aviator, and Dead Poets Society.
Books: If you hadn't guessed by my username, Kurt Vonnegut is my favorite author. Other favorite writers of mine include Jeanette Winterson, Oliver Sacks, Alan Lightman, and Derrick Jensen. Some other favorite books of mine are The Stranger by Albert Camus, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, An Unquiet Mind: A Memoir of Moods and Madness by Kay Redfield Jamison, and American Psycho by Bret Easton Ellis.
Video games: I don't play a lot of video games. I have an X-Box 360 and occasionally play Left 4 Dead and Plants vs. Zombies, but I definitely need some recommendations. Oh, Arkham Asylum is good too.
TV shows: I'm a fan of the Discovery channel, the Food Network, the History Channel, and some shows on Bravo and Lifetime. Shows like Iron Chef America, Top Shot, Project Runway, One Man Army, American Pickers, and things like that are my favorite.
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being "what the fuck is a fandom?" and 10 being "I love so many fandoms!" how much is your LJ an expression of your love for fandoms?: Maybe a two or a three. Occasionally I'll get in a "mood" and have an entry mostly-devoted to something that's on my mind (usually the X-Men), but this isn't frequent at all. I'm not really a card-carrying member of any fandoms. I don't do the whole fandom thing, and I don't understand very much about others either.
If money was no object (eg: every career made the same amount annually), what job would you have? (Don't say anything lame like "no job" or "professional lazyass" - dig deep, people!): I'd still want to do very much the same thing that I want to do right now -- be some kind of advocate or legal counsel for the LGBTQQIAA community or people with disabilities. Maybe I'd like to be a psychologist who deals with issues related to those two groups, too. Either way, I'd really like to be involved in either the legal or the healthcare field and I'd definitely like to work with one or both of those groups.
What does the subject matter of most of your LJ entries seem to focus on? (eg: real life, fandom stuff, writing, graphics, etc): Most of my journal is related to real life events, or introspection about things that are going on currently or have been on my mind a lot lately. It isn't fandom stuff and it isn't graphics. Occasionally there'll be some photographs I've taken, or just some snapshots that compliment what I want to talk about at the time. But mostly it deals with what's going on in my life right then, and what's pertinent on my mind.

Part II

From: [identity profile] tralfamadore.livejournal.com
What are you looking for in a new friend? Do you care about how often people comment?: I'd enjoy having friends who are somewhat like-minded, or who can appreciate some of the things I do. I enjoy having things to contribute when other people post, and I like receiving comments to my own posts. However, I'm not a stickler about that at all and would prefer that anyone who adds me not be the type to count comments and do friends' cuts based on who hasn't contributed "enough." That kind of thing is stressful and I will often read without really having very much to say. It doesn't mean I'm not paying attention, though! I like it when people write about what's going on in their lives and post thoughtful and introspective entries, rather than just daily lists of, "I did this, I did that." As I said, I'm not much into fandom and I probably won't understand a lot if that's what I constantly am reading about. Honest, open people who want to share themselves and read what others share are ideal.

Not gonna lie, it was the Anderson Cooper gif that lured me in. And the fact you're not dumping people for "not contributing" enough. Anyway, I'm not sure if we're like-minded but once I get my law degree I'd love to do something useful with it - like you. I don't post very often, and my entries all end up being 'private' after a while, so chances of me spamming your f-list are close to 0. So, want to be friends?

Are you in any of the Harry Potter landcomms here on LJ? (HiH, H_E, etc)? What house?

TV shows: DOCTOR WHO *and sometimes Merlin, The Walking Dead, Torchwood, Big Bang Theory
On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being "what the fuck is a fandom?" and 10 being "I love so many fandoms!" how much is your LJ an expression of your love for fandoms?: I'd say 2, solely because I am a HUGE fangirl, but I don't talk about it that much on my journal
If money was no object (eg: every career made the same amount annually), what job would you have? (Don't say anything lame like "no job" or "professional lazyass" - dig deep, people!): Oh, man. Bookstore owner! Manager. Do want.
What does the subject matter of most of your LJ entries seem to focus on? (eg: real life, fandom stuff, writing, graphics, etc): 99% real life stuff!
What are you looking for in a new friend? Do you care about how often people comment?:I do like comments, as it is nice to know someone is reading, but I am looking for someone interesting, who posts a lot of RL stuff, and who wants to form a friendship and not just a few comments and whatnot ...

I've got a tendency to do much the same thing myself. That is, either go for extended periods without writing a word or suddenly decide to go back and make nearly all of my entries private in one fell swoop. So there's no issue there. I'll add you right now, but I do feel like I ought to forewarn you that my most recent couple of entries are sort of doom and gloom and misery -- it's been a bit of an unusually rough weekend. Hopefully that doesn't completely turn you off. ;]

From: [identity profile] tralfamadore.livejournal.com
So I couldn't help but take a glance at your userinfo (which is probably a bit unfair as mine is totally blank), and I'd really like to add you. I'm a lover of English and a sociology/anthropology major on track to being certified in special education. I'm an INFJ and pretty damn liberal as well. Anyway, I think your journal would be an interesting read, and while my last couple of entries have been a bit emo (it's been a rough weekend), that isn't my usual style at all. And no walking on eggshells necessary! Is it all right if I add?

Ahh, shit happens, no problem. But thanks for the heads up ;)

The only thing that turns me off are recurring dramatic whiny posts of people who can't seem to pull up their panties and deal with petty things in a mature way - as long as you don't have 'unusually rough weekends' 3 times a month, I'm good.

OMG I just read your latest entry - I have two cats and I just want to say: if it's cat related, you can have 4 rough weekends a month for all I care. My weak spot is animals (especially cats).

Thanks for the support, honestly. It means a lot. She's presently lying across my lap acting as happy as she ever has, so whatever it was doesn't seem to be bothering her in the least. In fact she's probably as content as she's ever been with the sheer amount of attention and treats she's gotten these past couple of days. Living the high life. But it really, really terrified me at the time.

Well, I fulfill a few of the things on your "looking for" list and just miss the mark on a few more. I'm a 25 year old college student still working on my undergraduate after having taken a few years off to work and pursue other ventures. (Unfortunately that's nowhere near as interesting as I've made it sound.) I'm liberal, have been a vegetarian in the past and am thinking of going back, and queer-identified. I also think you sound really interesting and would love to add you and read some more. I worked in Early Childhood Education a couple of years back doing ABA Implementation in a behavioral intervention classroom, and I think your plans to be an art therapist sound awesome.

That last graphic is brilliant and I'm saving it right now. I also took a gander at your userinfo and have to say how cool it is that you're getting your pilot's license. It's something that I've always wanted to do, but I'm actually not sure that I meet the requirements to do so. My dad has his private pilot's license and owned a Cessna 175 when I was growing up, and I've always loved flying. He sold that plane and bought one off of Ebay (!!!) to fix up, but I don't think he's touched it in years. I still wish he would, though. I'm also a bit neurotic and I have a bad tendency to ramble. You sound really interesting and we have a few friends in common already. Would you mind if I added you?
